A 27-year-old who hailed a taxi on Dublin’s Aston Quay for Athy then left without paying appeared at Athy District Court.
Kildare Nationalist reports he took the cab late on 15 August and gave an Athy address; on arrival he walked off. Judge Desmond Zaidan ordered the €200 fare paid to the driver — noting it “would’ve been cheaper to take a flight” — and applied the Probation Act after learning there were no previous convictions and the money was handed over that afternoon. The defendant said he had missed the last train. The case is fare evasion resolved by payment and Probation Act, not a jail sentence.
