Athens taxi union seeks fuel tax cuts and EV delay

SATA president Thymios Lymberopoulos wants lower fuel taxes, higher fares and more time before mandatory electric cabs.

Athens taxi drivers’ union SATA is pressing the Greek government for relief as fuel and running costs climb.

Union president Thymios Lymberopoulos told OT that drivers are absorbing rising fuel bills and warned that without tax cuts it may become “impossible” to keep driving. He also wants higher fares and more time before taxis must switch to electric vehicles, citing the wider tax and operating framework as well as EV costs. Separate coverage from To Vima notes operators nationally seeking further fare rises after limited airport and time-charge updates. The dispute is industry lobbying, not a confirmed policy change.
